Burundi: among the world's poorest countries, consistently ranked as one of the poorest three. A sour history of ethnic division. Civil war and violence that spanned a recent decade. A genocide of 200,000. Here, against the sharp backdrop of hostility and need, microfinance loans totaling about 40 US dollars each are transforming the lives of entire families. They're also helping bring peace.
